As part of Gilgandra Preschool we offer a specialised Occupational Therapy Reediness to school program.  This is implemented in conjunction with our Occupational Therapist, alongside staff and Occupational Therapy Facilitator. The program provides the children with a unique opportunity to develop and improve their gross and fine motor skills, social capacity and emotional wellbeing.

The use of sensory integration experiences we provide in this program contributes towards building foundations in the following ways:

• To maximise children’s daily functions
• For intellectual, social and emotional development
• To strengthen the mind and body which is then more prepared for learning
• For higher achievement of normal developmental milestones
• Having a strong basis in sensory integration enhances development of higher gross and fine motor skills and contributes to better self-esteem, self-control and improved attention span.

The Community and Therapy room was recognised as an important contributing factor to literacy and numeracy in 2009 by the Australian Government and we are very fortunate to have these resources readily available.
